Although Rocksmith hasn’t gained the popularity of its predecessor, Guitar Hero, and probably never will, it can’t be denied that it is an amazing tool for young or new guitarists to get started with their instrument. Anyone who has picked up a guitar before knows that you can’t instantly play it; it takes practice and dedication and can sometimes be frustrating and boring. Rocksmith brings back the fun and gives kids like Audrey exactly the kind of stimulation and feedback they need to keep pressing on and learning more. Watch Audrey absolutely kill it on Slayers “War Ensemble”, one of the hardest songs in the game.
One drawback is that if all you are doing is playing to backing tracks, it is possible that you will develop sloppy technique because you cannot properly hear yourself. Rocksmith has its limitations but if you are inspired by Audrey and think Rocksmith may help you keep at it when practicing becomes a bit boring, then by all means try it. Also check out Guitarbots, which is similar to Rocksmith but is only on PC and you can play for free. Audrey has become very popular recently because of her slayer performance but she is not a one song canary. Check out Audrey’s YouTube Channel for more of her performances. Although she still needs to work on her technique, she is only 10 and I believe if she carries on playing like this and also practices without Rocksmith she will come up with many more surprises for us. -Guitar Graph
